10 Natural Remedies for Kidney Stones

The kidneys are one of the most important organs in the human body, as they help to detox and filter out impurities from the blood, as well as waste products in our urine. Kidney stones form when the kidneys are not able to process these toxins efficiently. In this case, a crystallization of unprocessed minerals build up, causing pain, stones and possible blockage of urine flow.

The following section will offer some simple natural remedies to help soothe the discomfort of kidney stones, as well as speed up the body’s natural healing process.

1. Lemon Juice, Olive Oil & Raw Apple Cider Vinegar

This is one of my favorites and easily one of the most effective remedies for kidney stones and the pain you may be experiencing. At the first symptom of stone pain, start by mixing 2 oz of organic olive oil with 2 oz of organic lemon juice.

Drink it straight down and follow with a 12-ounce glass of purified water. Wait 30 minutes. Then, squeeze the juice of 1/2 lemon in 12 ounces of purified water, add 1 tablespoon of organic raw apple cider vinegar and drink. Repeat the lemon juice, water and apple cider vinegar recipe every hour until symptoms improve.

2. Uva Ursi

Uva Ursi is another common folk remedy for kidney stones. Not only will it help fight off infection in the kidneys, but it may also help reduce pain and cleanse the urinary tract. 500mg three times a day is recommended for kidney stones.

3. Dandelion Root

Organic dandelion root is another great overall kidney tonic and cleanser. Taking up to 500 mg twice a day may be beneficial.

4. Kidney Beans

The shape of this bean may be indicative of its healing potential. An effective urinary home remedy for kidney stones, traditionally the pods where used as a medicinal decoction.

Try removing the beans from inside the pods, and then boiling the pods in purified hot water for six hours. This liquid can be strained through cheesecloth, cooled and taken throughout the day for one day to ease kidney stone pain.

5. Horsetail

A diuretic, horsetail tea is another effective natural remedy for kidney stones. Drink up to 3-4 cups of horsetail tea daily, or 2 grams of the herb in capsule form daily.

6. Pomegranate Juice

We all probably know that pomegranates have many health benefits. But, more specifically, the seeds and juice of pomegranates can be considered another natural remedy for kidney stones. This may be related to their sour and astringent properties. Try eating organic pomegranates or drinking freshly squeezed pomegranate juice.

7. Magnesium

Studies show that people with recurrent kidney stones who took magnesium supplements had a 92.3 percent improvement rate in reduction of kidney stones. 300 mg of magnesium orotate is recommended daily for prevention and reduction of stones.

8. Organic Celery

Both the vegetable and the celery seed are great diuretics and kidney tonics. Regular use of celery seed, both as a spice and a tea may prevent kidney stone formation.

9. Basil

A kidney tonififer, basil tea can be taken throughout the day for overall kidney health. If you have kidney stones try taking one teaspoon each of basil juice with raw honey daily for up to six months. It’s believed that folk remedies with pure basil juice can help induce stone expulsion from the urinary tract.

10. Change in Diet

Unhealthy food intake is a primary cause of kidney stones. Try to cut down on the amount of sodas and energy drinks you consume. Avoid processed foods, as well as all alcoholic beverages. Add more fruits and veggies to your diet, especially those that are listed above.

I would also recommend reading my book “The Green Body Cleanse” to learn how to avoid kidney stone forming foods and beverages.

Please remember, the remedies for kidney stones listed above are not intended to replace medical care. If you’re experiencing a lot of pain from kidney stones, it is wise to go see your doctor immediately.

Do you have a favorite kidney stone remedy that I missed? If so, please share it in the comments section below.

For optimal health, I would also highly recommend doing a colon cleanse and a liver and gallbladder cleanse at least 1-2 times a year.

What I would like to know is what are the proven ways to eliminate stones? I rarely have pain and when it occurs, it doesn't last, but I have stones in both kidneys and would love to be able to expel them.

Reported to work 80% of the time. Coke and asparagus. The phosphoric acid in Coke helps break down the stones and the asparagus acts as a diuretic to flush out the tiny crystals. The pH change produced by the Coke causes increased hydrogen ion secretion in the nephons of the kidney.

Required Ingredients:
• 6-pack of Coca-Cola, or a 2-liter bottle of Coke. Pepsi would probably work, too—but, we have not established proof of its effectiveness yet. Note:The original Kidney Stone Removal Remedy calls for Classic Coke™. However, we have learned that Diet and Caffeine-Free versions also work! Both have phosphoric acid—this is one of the main catalysts for dissolving your kidney stones. In addition, due to its high phosphoric acid content, Dr. Pepper would likely work as well.
• 6–8 oz. of asparagus. Canned or frozen generally works, but fresh is best.
• A high-speed blender.
• One gallon of Distilled water.

Procedure:
1. Over the course of 2 hours, drink the 72 ounces of Coke. Drink it warm.
2. Steam or quickly boil the asparagus. Process in the blender until well-puréed (liquid-no more chunks).
3. Within 5 minutes from drinking the last 12 ounces, eat the asparagus purée. Rather than simply gulping it down, try to mix the purée well with your saliva.
The remedy begins working immediately and, within a few hours, you’ll begin to pass the stones through your urine as sand-like particles. If you are not getting relief in a matter of hours, feel free to try again.

Keys to Success:
• The remedy works best if done on an empty stomach.
• Time of day does not dictate results, but morning may be best so you are not drinking all that caffeine before you try to sleep.
• Continue to drink a large quantity of distilled water immediately after taking the asparagus. The water will serve to re-hydrate your body. The qualities of Coke will begin to dehydrate you, so the water helps to prevent this from happening.
• Although you can resume your normal diet immediately after you finish this remedy, it is best to wait between one and two hours before eating to allow the remedy to achieve the best results.
• If the kidney stones are not all passed the first day, repeat the process within 3 days. If you have a scheduled surgery, repeat the next day!
• Coke is not a preventative for stones. Actually, any soda pop with caffeine will dehydrate the body and lead to a higher potential of stones. For the remedy, the coke is used for its chemical properties and interaction with the asparagus.

I'd love to hear your testimonies.

In southern part of India the village traditional doctors who practice herbals to cure, uses the juice of center stem of banana tree to melt and remove the kidney stones. After completely peeling off the outer portion of the a grown banana tree, white stem will come out. Just crush it and extract the juice. It has to be taken raw(half a cup) and for a taste a splash of lemon juice can be added. Two or three does a day for 2/3 days would be enough to flush out the stones.

In some country side in the southern part of India, the juice of white radish with a spoon of lemon juice is taken twice a day for about a week to remove the stones.

The above may be verified in the mannuals of Siddha and Ayurvedic before using.

ha ha ha... spot the Coke sales rep!!

Rosehip tea is meant to be very effective at keeping stones at bay, but can take up to 6 months to break down present stones. I have one 1cm stone in a kidney as shown on a CT scan recently. The urologist wants to zap it with impulses to break it up artificially, but my fear is that in bits it may form gravel and each particle grow into a new stone.

I eat loads of fruit and veg and have done for years. I grow my own veg and eat fruits from my garden! I do drink too much tea though so have slowed down on that aspect.

I am so glad I came across this page! I was trying to avoid a doctor since I am without health insurance right now. I just knew the pain I felt was another stone. I had a bad kidney infection that went into my blood stream about 2 years ago. I had excrutiating pain.No mention of a stone, and then 3 months later I passed an 8mm stone with really no pain. I don't know how! I felt the pain suddenly on the same side on Wednesday morning, and immediately started drinking a ton of water. I went online and make a liist of supplements and remdies. I started taking garlic, echinacia, magnesium, potassium, and cranberry. I firmly believe that prevented infection from starting. I began taking the olive oil and lemon juice, and apple cider vinegar, a couple times a day. I didn't feel any relief. I didn't want to give up yet, and then I saw the post from Preston. I went out and got Coke and asparagus. I am NOT a soda drinker, and have always hated coke ( too many bubbles) so I was a little concerned that I might not be able to get that many down. I paced myself, 3 each hour, and barely finished the 6th. I didn't mind the asparagus at all, once I got the first bite down. I had bubbles in my throat, but once down it actually felt like it soothed my stomach. Don't get me wrong it was still hard to eat, because I was so full, but after drinking all that coke, I wasn't going to give up then. I had to force myself to drink a couple glasses of water and Within about 20 min. I began to urinate about every 15min. I continued to drink more water, and in an hour I didn't feel that fullness anymore, but it was several hours before all the gas was relieved. I am not screening my urine, but I have seen some very small particles in the toilet. This morning I have continued the water and my supplements, and feel a huge relief in the backpain. I assume the kidney will be a little sore for a while, but I feel really cleaned out. I would use that remedy again in a heartbeat. I will certainly do everything I can to prevent stones in the future so I don't have too. I hope this helps anyone else going through the same thing.

I use the Coke and Asp. cure every time, and I have passed 21 stones. Currently trying to pass one. The largest stone I have passed is 7mm. Currently the one I have is about 71/2mm. However for some reason that coke cure does work. My Urologist told me the only time I can drink soda is when trying to pass the stone. He was the one who gave me the coke and Asp recipe to try, and it was successful! I also have tried the Olive oil and lemon juice, it made me throw up, but it did move the stone. Good luck everyone!!

MARGI Finch

Hi

I've recently been in hospital several times with kidney stones. I've been very ill and seem to be more ill now that I've had a large stone operated on. Ive had 2 stents surgically placed in my ureter and also had a nasty UTI. The stents I found very painful although the specialiast said it should be painless. I have numerous stones in both kidneys, the largest 7mm was removed surgically and I have another 5mm stone in my left kidney which looks ready to move. My problem is that the ureter isnt big enough to pass this stone. I just want reassurance that if I try the coke and asparagus treatment I won't be worse off. Can someone give me advice, Regards Margi
