Detox Without Stress

Share/Save/Bookmark

Q: Last month I tried a two-week detox diet, and to be perfectly honest, I felt horrible. By dinner on day one I had a dull headache that felt like a mild migraine, and the next morning nausea set in. To make a long story short, I was so miserable I didn't make it past day three. I want to try again, but only if it's possible to ease the pain.

Ann Louise: Most of your detox side effects-caused by withdrawal from toxins like caffeine and sugar-will vanish in just four days. In the meantime, try quieting your headache naturally with foods rich in magnesium, a mineral that works to relax the muscles that can cause tension headaches. Meats and nuts are good sources, or reach for a 400mg supplement. To settle your stomach, sip a cup of hot water mixed with 1tsp. of ground ginger, a root shown to have neausea-fighting powers. And keep in mind that when your symptoms do pass, you'll feel (and look) better than you have in years - and for many more to come!
