PSA Fails Its Test

When the mainstream medical community began pushing the prostate specific antigen (PSA) test more than 20 years ago, they had absolutely no proof that the test was beneficial - or even safe, for that matter. But that never stopped them from hailing it as a godsend and announcing to every man in American that having a yearly PSA was the only way to protect against prostate cancer.
And the money came rolling in…
It was a good little scam, but the gig is almost up… especially if reports like the one just published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute continue popping up.
Dutch and Swedish researchers found that even though more frequent screening increased the number of tumors detected, it failed to reduce the number of AGGRESSIVE TUMORS that appeared between screenings.
Researchers followed two groups of men between the ages of 55 and 65 years old for 10 years. The first group (4,000 men) was tested every two years, and the second group (13,000 men) was tested every four years. As you would imagine, more tumors were found among the group that was tested more frequently - 13 percent verses 8 percent.
But here's the catch: There was no statistically significant difference between the two groups of men in the number of aggressive tumors that formed between screenings. The researchers said, "More screening did not cut the number of these cancer cases as one might have expected."
That's been my point all along. As we age, it's perfectly normal to develop small tumors in our prostates. It's when you start messing with them that you stir up a hornet's nest. But it's the AGGRESSIVE TUMORS that'll kill you - whether you get a routine PSA or not.
The lead researcher of the study, Monique Roobol, said, "We here in Europe feel that over- diagnosis and over-treatment is certainly something you should avoid." That's a not-so-subtle and all-too-deserved slap in the face to the medical community on this side of the pond. And, as you know, I couldn't agree more.

Im Impressed By Dr Douglass's Resume...I am a 61 yr old male,who is in late stage 3 of Protate cancer...My urologist seems to be in a great hurry to remove my testies,and let me (and my wife) accure a HUGE Medical Bill(That we would Probably Never Be Able To Pay Off)..Im Wondering...What Dr. Douglass has to say about protate cancer and any possible cure ....Im Currently using "FLAX SEED OIL and cottage Cheese..And it Feels Like I'm Having Some Succsess...Anyways...I Would appreciate any advice Dr. Douglass may have....Sincerly Yours... dear mr. mcdonald, ...i don't know if there's anything to this, or whether you can afford it, so i apologize if this too would be out of reach to you, but i hate to think of you suffering over there so i just wanted to take a chance on mentioning... in a sister publication to the hsi newsletter, i read about german cancer clinics that fight cancer by inducing a controlled fever, calling your body's immune system into action to possibly battle the cancer and, it sounded promising... there was a pamphlet available for purchase, it's name was "german cancer breakthrough" by andrew (i believe it's spelled) scholberg and maybe it would be worth the money to see what it has to say and maybe the treatment (plus a visit to germany) would be cheaper than american surgery ...and the price of its deleterious effects on you. if you can't find the pamphlete, write back and i'll try to dig up the link where it can be purchased. ...also, have you heard about a supplement called "graviola"? it's a rainforest herb that is said to be powerful against cancer - just, if possible, use it under the care of a physician who knows what they're doing (i would trust a naturopathic one, but i imagine you don't have access to a naturopathic doctor since you're stuck with the one who wants to perform surgery? ...if it ever becomes an option to you, you can find an ND in your area at acam.org, or look online...). i hope my small offerings can help you or that someone, more educated than i, will. wishing you healing and blessings! :) ~charity

p.s. i forgot to mention - you probably already do this, since you participate in this great healthier talk community, but... definitely, make extensive use of health message boards (and online research in general) ...but of course, "always run things by a doctor - naturopathic doc, preferably! - before trying" to be on the safe side... i believe, the more signals you send out, the more likely it is that someone will share previously unknown wisdom with you ...makes sense, right? :) blessed be ~charity

My father was diagnosed 10 days ago with prostate cancer. Because he gets yearly check ups, his PCP realized his levels had doubled in a year. He was referred to a urologist who performed a biopsy which they stated was positive. What concerns me is that he mentioned surgery and radiation treatment almost immediately. I am encouraging my dad to get a second and even third opinion.
He is getting a bone density test on Friday and there are still so many unanswered questions. I have been reading everything I can get my hands on about this disease. I'm not even sure what our next step should be. Any suggestions?

It amazes me to hear that this Dr the conscience of medicine and voted by the NHF Dr of the year, yet this Dr could not practice and use his advance knowledge and pass this knowledge to emerging Drs for the sake of the American people, he and many Drs like him are being hounded as if they were criminals, and all this just for giving their patients priority in their well being, why can not these professionals practice what they preach and as patients having the choice to be treated by such Drs, there are so many negligent Drs out there yet they continue practicing, who is protecting who in this case?. As a 53 yr old male Disabled American Veteran (100%) I am so confused and down right ANGRY at "OUR MEDICINE" in THIS COUNTRY (including the Veterans Administration) for NOT being more "OPEN-MINDED" in regard to US..... AMERICANS !! I can not see a doctor that does NOT GIVE ME A Rx for something !!!!! and what is worse is that the DRUGS COST so much that half the time I CAN NOT AFFORD THEM !!!!!! I use Medicare and the VA and STILL I am just going DOWN -HILL-FASTER and FASTER........ Why....... WHY IS THIS HAPPENING...yes I know about Big-Pharma and the Goverment LOVE AFFAIR with them but WHY FOLKS........ WE are dying.... in debt to the tune of OUR GRAND-CHILDREN.....the FDA is no good either (look at the RECALLS that the FDA was suppose to STUDY on OUR BEHALF) not to mention that DOCTORS get very little study on nutrition vs. PILLS !!!!!!!!! I want to LIVE...... why not go more to NATURAL Solutions that don't make US in the USa sicker, broker and kill us slowly........ Biopsy to the prostate gland, if found to be malignant, releases the cancer cells adhering to the withdrawn hollow needle into the blood stream. THAT is why if the lab test comes back 'malignant' the doctor oncologist will push for IMMEDIATE surgery/radiation...
They KNOW that those cancer cells are circulating through the blood and searching for weak tissues to take up new residence in.
Another medical PROfession scam....... NEVER have a biopsy. It there is NO malignancy, then you don't GET sick.... if there is malignancy then after the biopsy it is EVERYWHERE..... lungs, brain, liver... etc.
