Raining on the statin parade

If Big Pharma and mainstream medicine had their way, we'd all be taking a daily statin along with our breakfasts.

More and more, they've been pushing the drugs as prevention -- with one group going so far as to suggest statins be sprinkled on fast food.

Never mind the risks associated with these so-called "protective" statins -- including diabetes, kidney failure, cataracts, liver damage, muscle weakness, or any of the other horrible risks associated with those "protective" statins.

The way they'd tell it, statins are downright magical.

Well, I'm sorry, but there's no such thing as a magic pill, and the whole thing smacks of yet another way for Big Pharma to rake in the dough while putting all of our health at risk.

Last week, I wrote about the amazing heart protection offered by a diet rich in fruits and vegetables -- if you missed it, eight portions a day could earn you a 22 percent reduction in the risk of dying from heart disease ("Saving your heart is easier than you think").

And right on the heels of that news comes a review that could mark the beginning of the end of this ridiculous notion of protective statins. Of course, the statin pushers are NOT happy.

A new Cochrane meta-analysis review led its authors to put out a press release questioning just how beneficial statins are in primary prevention, and that previous data showing benefits may have been (surprise, surprise!) biased by industry-funded studies. You don't say! You mean I can't trust the drug companies to be truthful when they're testing their own drugs?

All snark aside, this is very big news. Based on 14 trials involving 34,272 people, the report concludes that the benefits of protective statin use are not enough to justify the risk. In the United Kingdom, the media is actually starting to question the statin love. Headlines saying the drugs are being overused are popping up in various outlets, as is the sad notion that millions of people are being needlessly exposed to the dangerous risks statins can introduce.

Like I said, the statin pushers aren't happy. They say the risk of side effects is negligible, and that the drugs are beneficial. Cochrane misrepresented the data, they say -- and this could be dangerous for the people who NEED statins!

Don't make me laugh.

Could we really see a reduction in the headlines proclaiming statins a miracle of heart protection? Maybe not just yet. But if we can get stories like this and yesterday's big fruit and veggie news out there -- we might not have to wait too much longer before all this statin love is a thing of the past.

When are we going to learn, and when do bureaucrats will stop thinking that they can do all the thinking for us, let us put it to a vote if that will be the case if we would like any thing added to our water supply and to our food, these monsters just take our health for granted just to make a few bucks, there is absolutely no logic, they poison the soil, we suffer, they add all these waste to our water supply, we suffer, they treat the cattle with chemicals, we suffer and on top of that they want to sprinkle a dose of this and a dose of that, as we all know we do not come from a laboratory experiment, I do believe they should put their head in a lavatory maybe their brains will come out a little cleaner, come on people stop all this nonsense. I have a friend whose doctor wanted to put him on statins before he'd even done bloodwork! Btw, his cholesterol was 155.

I really, really understand that statins are a Bad Thing. What I cannot seem to find, is anything pointing clearly to a diet that would allow me to have clear arteries (or for those with blocked ones) to gradually clear them out. Some feel that EDTA intravenous chelation is the answer. I tried that over 60 sessions, and actually saw my calcium scores go UP, not down. What this country needs is more answers, not more accusations about what's wrong.

Sigh. A scenario that plays out again and again. We have to rely on other countries to save us: Here is how it goes: American drug company with mega billions and tons of political power pushes a drug as being magical in its benefits even though there are ample studies which say the opposite, Americans suffer but the drug company is consistenly backed up by politicians etc. etc, people from other countries then start dying like flies from the use of this drug, THEIR politicians eventaually say "this must not continue!" and bans the drug there. Eventually a small trickle of the mainstream media (all of which is owned by the drug companies) starts to make a tiny squak about how "maybe we need to take some notice of this". Not much happens. But at least more poeple are made aware of it.

To Anonymous: Diet is critical. You can find these diets out if you google them. But also there are supplements that help, such as those containing nattokinase to clear out blocked arteries. (Nattokinase is an enzyme found in the fermented food "natto" which is consumed by the Japanese). It is also important to reduce inflammation because it is oxidized cholesterol that is a problem, not cholesterol itself. Oxidized cholesterol occurs in an inflammatory state.

A person may want to try Red Yeast Rice supplements for cholesterol lowering. It works just like a statin without the side effects. BE SURE that it is citirin free. That is the bad part that will give similar side effects of statins. Hope this is helpful.

No; No; No; These monsters are not just taking your health for granted just to make a few bucks. Those lunatics do not- at any time like to be the underdog; and it's not just for a few bucks. They deal with Million$$$$$$$$$$$$$, Trillion$$$$$$$. Have made a law unto themselves; now there are too many grubby fingers in the 'money pie.' You know as well as I do who [they] are; but you've heard the saying when you're onto a good thing; 'Stick To It.' Well that's exactly what they are trying to do, but not for much longer. You see the pedestal they stand on is beginning to crumble.
Every time a whistleblower spits out 'The Truth,' it's another bullet in our arsenal. Leading us closer to the courts who will prosecute; charge; and imprison those who have stolen, by manipulation of government departments, and other agents, the rights of the people to have 'Free Choices' for Clean Safe FOOD, WATER, and Personal Choices in Medications, Medicines and Treatments. Doctors have been lied to long enough, they are fed-up with the 'Big Bully Boy' Tactics. Doctors want to be trusted and relied on once again. Like they were a few decades ago. Most of today's doc's are so full of spin. Talk about forked tongues; don't know how some of them can lie straight in bed. But that's all going to change..........for sure.
There's gonna be some 'Big Cleanouts,' from the 'top to the bottom.' DedCert.

esbearden is right. Natto is the richest source of K2, which dictates calcium deposition and can actually get calcium out of the arteries and into the bones and teeth. Americans are deficient in K2 (as opposed to K1 which is from green plant foods), because of tweaking our benenficial bacteria through antibiotics, our over processed foods, the fact that our cattle are raised on genetically modified grains instead of grass that creates beneficial bacteria in the animal, and because we are always told to eat low fat dairy products that are completely void of fat soluble nutrients. Vitamin K2 is a fat soluble nutrient that is actually carried from the liver to the cels via LDL cholesterol (that we're always told is "bad"). We've been brainwashed to believe that heart disease, "high" cholesterol etc. is due to the deficiency of a statin. Cholesterol is not an adequate marker for heart disease, as studies show that up to 75% of heart attacks occur in people with normal or low levels. In addition to natto, K2 is found in cultured dairy products like whole fat yogurt, kefir, cheese, and pasture butter, as well as organ meats, bone stocks, and fermented vegetables. Supplements are also available, but it's important to get the MK7 form which is from natto. Also, for those who do try red yeast rice if they feel the need to lower cholesterol, some folks do experience similar side effects as statins in terms of muscle soreness and weakness (even citrin free). It's still important to use CoQ10 (ubiquinol form is the most effective) along with it.

Again we are missing the point, it is not good or bad cholesterol neither are good or bad they both perform a function one is to repair and the other is remove and send it back to the liver to be used later, fact is if you attack the liver in this manner by forcing cholesterol down, what do you think you are doing? You are putting this organ with over 400 functions to battle this junk you are ingesting and for what? One thing is not mentioned as many good Drs will point out is the (homocysteine) factor which is the culprit behind arthrosclerosis this factor have to be resolved before we are exposed to any other treatments, people are dying left and right and their cholesterol levels were are optimal, forced by statins, feel free to comment. Christine

Do you think you could include a link to the paper that you have referenced? When speaking with a PCP or cardiologist, published papers carry more weight than articles. Thanks

Hi Christine for those that are prescribed Statins,
it's been proven that they deplete, what natural Q10
we produce,so why not supplement with a good quality
fermented co enzyme Q10.
