What a Chicken Could Teach You About Joint Discomfort
When you hear someone mention stiff, aching joints, “chickens” probably isn’t the first thought that pops into your head. But maybe it should be.
Because chickens may just hold the secret to getting you back on your feet and moving again – maybe even dancing or golfing again – when your joints feel their worst.
The secret is in the eggshell. Or the eggshell membrane, at least.
Inside every eggshell is a lining – called the eggshell membrane. It’s that sticky film that clings to your hard-boiled eggs. And while it doesn’t look like much, it’s made up of some pretty remarkable ingredients.
First off, it’s loaded with high-quality protein. But it also contains about 25% collagen, plus hyaluronic acid, glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate.
If you’re like me, your first thought reading that list was, “That’s exactly what your body uses to build and maintain healthy joints.” It’s the first thought a certain group of scientists had, too.
Their second thought was, “But how do we get at it?”
Ordinarily, the membrane sticks to the shell, and only peels off in little bits and pieces. Until now, there’s been no economical way to naturally separate the two. But these scientists devised a way to do it – and they started experimenting.
First they tested their purified natural eggshell membrane (NEM) on a group of people in Missouri. All of them suffered with some form of joint pain and stiffness. The researchers gave them 500 mg of NEM a day for 30 days.
By day 7, the subjects had much greater flexibility in their joints – 27.8% greater. After 30 days, this had jumped to 43.7%. And they experienced 72.5% less joint discomfort.(1)
Next, the researchers tested two variations of NEM with new volunteers. Group Y volunteers received NEM that had been hydrolyzed – broken down with water – to a higher degree than the NEM they gave to Group X.
After 7 days, the X group felt 18.4% less joint discomfort. But in those same 7 days, the Y group’s discomfort dropped by 31.3%.(1)
I realize these numbers may not mean much to you, so let me put it to you another way.
Let’s say a day you don’t experience any joint discomfort is a zero. And your worst days are a 10. Now imagine if – just one week from today – your worst day suddenly dropped to a 7.
Let’s take it even further, as in the first trial. What could you be doing just 30 days from now if your worst day’s joint ache was a 3 instead of a 10?
This is one of those breakthroughs that get me excited. Because I can picture some of my patients getting out on the golf course again… taking long walks on the beach… even going out dancing.
And remember… all these people took just one daily dose of 500 mg. That’s not a lot. Just one pill in the morning, and you could be set for the day… and night.
Finally, no one in either study suffered any side effects. No upset stomachs, no increased risk of bleeding, no liver problems.
Eggshell membrane is 100% natural, safe and remarkably effective. This could be the biggest breakthrough in years for stiff, aching joints. Who could have guessed it would come from a chicken?

This is really good to know. I am surprised that this is the first time that I have read about this, since the study results have been available for more than 18 months. I wonder though if it is possible to combine taking glucosamine with NEM. How much glucosamine does it contain? I take glucosamine and don't want to take too much. The glucosamine is very effective for me, but maybe I could get a better result from combining.

Is there any way one can DIY ? As someone who eats soft-boiled eggs on most days, I am now horrified that I do not get the best bit! At least I compost the shells, but I doubt the bugs in my soil have a joint problem.
Is the shell-lining raw or cooked?

How could I get it out of my eggshell?
And what the previous commenter asked:
Is the shell-lining raw or cooked?
Please, answer, thanks you

I'm very interested in this topic. I wonder if the NEM is disposed of with the shell or if I am still getting the benefits when I consume my raw organic egg with the morning protein shake?

NEM can be purchased as a supplement included with other ingredients. Just search for NEM. I'm not quite sure what the "cleaning" process involves. Yes Jim the NEM is disposed of with the shell, it's difficult to peel off.
Although I like and read the info on this site I'm disappointed that no-one ever answers the questions, some of them genuine requests for help.

don't be disappointed, wendy, the articles are often so bereft of information, what do you expect? on the other hand, the doctors who write them are probably afraid of losing their licenses.
